Rath An Iuir

A bit of physio to get him in top shape

ONE runner at Newcastle today with Rath An Iuir lining up in the Eider at 3.25pm. There’s no doubt he would have preferred much softer ground but we’re still in the middle of this unseasonably dry spell so things haven't fallen in our favour.

I’ve spoken to the clerk of the course Eloise and she thinks it will ride softer than good-to-soft, which will help us a bit.

It’s four miles so a good test of stamina, which is exactly what he’s looking for, and he’s got a nice low weight. This is always a competitive race and if the ground was soft enough we’d be pretty confident of having a bit of a chance.

We’ve put the cheekpieces on him to see if that ekes out any improvement. We had planned to use them at Kelso last time but the ground was heavy there so we felt he didn’t need them. The hope is that on this better ground they’ll help him travel a bit better when they’re going faster than he’d ideally want to.

He’s been trained for this race so hopefully the plan comes together - even if the weather hasn’t done what we hoped it would!

Waiting patiently for his trip to the races
