Kelso

THREE runners heading up to Kelso this afternoon, although like everyone with horses entered there today we’ll be paying close attention to the ground. It’s certain to be quick and there’s firm in the description, so we’ll have a look at it and listen to the jockeys after the first before deciding whether all three will run or not.

Rae having a good look around

RAE DES CHAMPS (4.05) is having a quick enough turnaround from Newcastle twelve days ago, where she ran well after having a very odd start to the race, losing a lot of ground, then finishing like a train. Watching it back, we’re convinced she could have won had she started better so hopefully that will be the case today. She likes good ground but we won’t risk her if it’s too quick.

We have managed to find a pretty weak, three-runner race for ROCKONSOPH (4.40). She ran okay last time out before making a mistake four out and things happened all a bit too quickly for her after that. She will have a bit more time stepping up to three miles but that will require her to settle a bit better than she’s done previously. She is a former point winner so we’d be hopeful she’ll get the trip.

HERMANN CLERMONT (5.15) runs in the hunters’ chase with Nick Orpwood riding because Will Ramsay remains sidelined. Three-miles-two will possibly stretch him a bit and while quicker ground will be okay for him, he’ll only run if we’re entirely happy with it.
