Fete Champetre

Fete Champetre (far side)

A fantastic day on Sunday at Musselburgh with Captain Quint winning and an excellent run from Limerick Leader to be second. We were also satisfied with Get With It, who will improve for spring ground when it comes, and the return of Cliffs of Dooneen after a long absence. After a slow month with postponements and unsuitable ground, it’s good to be motoring along again and it’s off to Doncaster tomorrow now.

FETE CHAMPETRE (2.05) lines up looking to make it back-to-back victories building on his win at Musselburgh last December. Craig rode him a bit more prominently there, where he travelled and jumped well in a race which has held a bit of form, with the runner up finishing second again next time and the fifth going in at Carlisle on Sunday.

The handicapper has hit him with a 5lbs rise for winning, which is fair enough, and things will obviously be a bit tougher now. He’s never run at Doncaster before but won at Wetherby in the past, so the track and 2m3f trip shouldn’t be an issue. While this race looks a slightly tougher assignment on paper, if he turns up tomorrow in the same form as Musselburgh he’ll have every chance of being competitive.
