Doncaster Duo

Hitman Fred

WE head to Doncaster today with HITMAN FRED (3.10) who tackles another veterans’ chase and we’re hoping for a better showing than last time. Since he’s turned 10, he’s qualified for these events and they’re a fantastic addition to the calendar these days for the older horses who still have plenty of life in them yet.

Fred ran at Catterick last time which didn’t go to plan at all. The track didn’t suit him one bit so hopefully going back to a big, galloping course he’ll be seen to better effect.

These races have good prize money so they are always competitive but if switching tracks has the impact we believe it will, there’s every chance he’ll be competitive.

OKOVANGO DELTA (Saturday 4.25) will also run this weekend, his second outing within five days but that’s because we want to get him qualified for the final at Kelso later this month. I’ve ridden him myself this morning and he seems absolutely fine after Ayr on Monday.

It’s a quick turnaround but we know he likes Doncaster, where he won three runs ago, and getting back on better ground will aid his chances. We’re hoping he’ll run well and get qualified for the finals.
