Some Reign heads to the Morebattle

WE have decided to pitch SOME REIGN (3.15) in at a high level in this weekend’s Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso, which is exciting for us all at the yard. Everyone knows by now he’s a quirky customer and he’s not started the last twice so there’s a big warning attached to him. He’s a big price and that’s probably something to do with his naughtiness in the past!

But he’s got ability and if he deigns to go down to the start and jump off - it’s always a big if with him - then he could surprise a few people. He’s a good horse, loads of class and is going well at home so there’s every chance he could outrun the odds.

I couldn’t find a chase for him until April so we just thought we’d go back over hurdles for now and Kelso is a good place for him to go. He’s got some decent form at the track and the two-mile start at Kelso is good for him because there’s nowhere he can look to duck out - so that’s part of our thinking. Plus, it’s only up the road so it’s not too far to go in case he does refuse to race!

That's him in the photo above, with regular rider Leachy and getting a nuzzle from his best pal and next door neighbour Espoir Moriviere.

We were thrilled with Rae Des Champs at Musselburgh on Wednesday. She did it really well and won in good style, so it was exciting to see her do it like that. She needs further in time but showed she can do it over a shorter trip and on a sharp track.

Definite Wisdom also ran very well and just missed out on second, but it was a step forward from his last run so there’s reason to be optimistic about him again.
