Sales success - and join us here at Hazelrigg

We had a busy time at the sales last week, buying a total of six horses for the future.

On day one we managed to successfully bid for two unbroken store horses, both of which are for sale.

The first is a really nice 3yo gelding by Arcadio, who is very athletic and looks real value at the £7,000 we paid for him. He’s got a good page, out of a Presenting mare which is a nice cross and there are plenty of winners in the family including Monbeg River.

He wasn’t expensive but looks like he’ll be a fun horse for someone in the future.

We also bought a 3yo Court Cave gelding for £22,000 who is the second foal out of a Westerner mare. He’s a big strapping horse who looks the part who really caught our eye when we were looking at him. He’s an imposing individual with a great walk so we wanted to get him from the moment we saw him

We also bought four horses in training all from the point-to-point field. One of them, The Player Queen, came from the English pointing scene and impressively won a bumper under rules at Cheltenham in April for Melanie and Phil Rowley.

She is for my father along with Rae Des Champs (below) and Cosmic Outlaw (second), so it’s exciting to have three new young horses for mum and dad this forthcoming season.

We also bought Whelan’s Bridge, who won a point-to-point at Lisronagh at the start of May. As you’ll see from the photo of him below, he’s a tall rangy sort with a bit of scope. He’s by a new-ish stallion Finsceal Fior, who is a Galileo and was the first foal of the brilliant dual 1,000 Guineas winner Finsceal Beo.

He didn’t make the track because of injury so was sent to the breeding sheds and has had some success already from a low number of jumpers.
