Rockonsoph ready to head to Perth

ANOTHER season has come and nearly gone, so it’s back to Perth for the start of the summer tracks with two runners on Wednesday and a few more lined up over the course of the three days. We’ve got a few horses who have been waiting for better ground lately so hopefully we’ll get a chance to send them north in the weeks and months to come.

CAPTAIN QUINT (2.00) was running really well at Carlisle in the Go North final last month until making a terrible mistake at the bottom of the hill. He almost fell so to come back from that, rally and finish fourth was a great effort. We are slightly short of options for him so I fear two-and-a-half around Perth on this ground will be slightly sharp for him so we have given him the option of running in both of the three mile chases on Friday as well. What we’re going to do is see how the ground is riding first before making a decision on whether he takes part. If he doesn't run today, he'll go on Friday.

ROCKONSOPH (4.05) has yet to win for us but showed plenty of promise in a mares’ handicap at Ayr last month where she would have been closer in the finish if she hadn’t made a mistake at the last. The handicapper has dropped her 2lbs for that so she comes here off a lovely mark and with a clear round of jumping we’d be hopeful of a big effort. The ground and trip are fine while going right-handed for the first time shouldn’t pose any problems. We might have a slight change of tactics today and ride her a bit more handy.
