Newcastle Duo

'Who are you looking at?!' Rae Des Champs on the lorry this morning

TWO runners at Newcastle this afternoon, GET WITH IT (2.15) and RAE DES CHAMPS (3.55).

Get With It is stepping back to two-and-a-half miles having been running over three at Perth and Kelso through the summer and into the autumn. We don’t think that will be too much of a problem and Craig Nichol’s only worry is that it doesn’t look like there’s much pace in the race because he has liked to sit in behind lately. This is a bit of last-minute plan with the racing being changed from Sedgefield but it looks a nice chance for him, the ground is decent and we don’t know how long it will last that way so we might as well keep him busy.

He ran very well at Kelso and I expect Newcastle to be fine because it’s a lovely big track. He’s gone up seven pounds and has risen by a total of twenty since his form really picked up over the summer. But he’s only a seven year-old still and we’d like to think there’s more improvement to come.

Rae Des Champs was due to go to Carlisle on Monday, a race we’d been waiting a while for, then it got abandoned. It would have been too soft for her anyway so I was kind of kicking myself for hanging off for so long and thinking she should have been out by now. This has come up so it’s a nice target, she’s been ready for a while so hopefully we’ll get her season off to a good start.

We were thrilled with Here Comes The Man yesterday, that was much more like it! Running like that will be great for his confidence and it looks like he’s definitely over the physical issues that had been holding him back. Hopefully he’ll be winning races before too long.

The Player Queen is our only weekend runner down at Wetherby so we’ll update with a new blog on her tomorrow.
