Kelso Trio

IT’s great to be back to Kelso again where we have three runners, two in fields much smaller than we expected when the entries were published last week.

FETE CHAMPETRE (1.55), above, is very much a chaser for the future so we’ll be going over fences with him later in the season. Because of the dry weather we’ve not been able to get any outdoor schooling into him - although that will change soon because of the rain we’ve had lately.

Because he’s not had a proper school over fences, we have decided to give him a spin over hurdles to get him tuned up. He’s probably not one hundred percent at the moment and with the likes of Iolani, Beeno and Kensington Art all recent winners, it’s going to be pretty quickly run. We are going to need further eventually as well, so I do feel this could be a bit too nippy for us this weekend.

That said, we are happy with him at home and if we can get an encouraging run then it would send us away nicely to get started over fences.

We think we have found a good race for DO NOT DISTURB (2.30) who goes well here. He’s still a novice until the end of October and it’s a small field, so he’s got a lot in his favour. We think he’s ready to fire, he’s been going well at home and looks fit after his summer break. Fingers crossed!

DEFINITE WISDOM (4.15) tackles another small field but a bit like Fete Champetre he’s had a break and is still looking a bit heavy. We had him in at Bangor earlier in the week but wanted to give him a little bit more before coming here. The field size will help him because he doesn’t like to be crowded in his races, but the fitness edge of others could be important. Hopefully we’ll get a nice run into him and with a four-runner race, you never know what might unfold.

A few more of these today would be nice.....
