Get With It and Ciaran doing their final prep this morning
A quiet Christmas and New Year period on the track for us, with only a handful of entries over the festive season. A win for Rath An Iuir at Kelso with our final runner of 2023 was a fantastic way to end the year, with Gentleman De Mai stepping up in grade and finishing second - and be a long way ahead of the third-placed horse. He’s been hit with a 3lbs rise for that but he feels like he’s still improving so we’ll try to find a nice opportunity for him next time.
There’s plenty of encouragement with the way they’re running now heading into 2024 as we saddle one at Musselburgh. GET WITH IT (12.10) heads back up to Edinburgh where he’ll face a few of the opponents from his race there a three weeks back. Ciaran O’Shea will take seven pounds off him in this Conditionals handicap, so we’re well-weighted with the winner that day, Deep Charm, all of a sudden.
We changed tactics a little bit on him last time out, riding him up in the front rank and were happy with the way he travelled and jumped before he was just out-speeded after the second last. He really wants better ground than he’s had so far this season so with a couple of drying days forecast at Musselburgh hopefully conditions will turn more in his favour.
The handicapper has dropped him a further 2lbs so fingers-crossed things can fall right this week.
