WE will have one runner this weekend with DOKTOR GLAZ (2.47) heading to Kelso for their Sunday meeting in what will probably be his swansong.
We were quite pleased with his performance at Ayr a few weeks ago because he travelled with a lot of his old enthusiasm and jumped with plenty of zest before blowing up because of his layoff, so if he continues in that vein then we’d like to think he could be competitive. But he's 12 years old now and it's most likely time to call it a day after this and let him continue teaching Dessie how to ride!
Off 94 now the handicapper has been kind to him since this is a career low mark and a full ten pounds below what he was rated when he won at Carlisle a few years back. It will be a competitive race but he’s always a horse who has had ability so on his best form he would have a chance.
The ground will be pretty quick but he’s raced on good before so that shouldn’t be a problem for him.
Over the years he’s been pretty tough to keep sound, as you can see from his lack of runs so if this is going to be his final appearance it would be great for him, and his owners The Friday Lions, to go out on a high note.
Apart from the odd runner it’s a pretty quiet time at the yard just now, we have very few horses in for racing over the summer so that has given us the chance to do a lot of maintenance around the place. The whole yard has been cleaned, painted and generally spruced up while the horses are on their holidays enjoying life in the field.
We expect to have a couple of runners at Perth next Sunday so we’ll update on them nearer the time.
