CLIFFS OF DOONEEN (1.30) makes his debut for us at Kelso today after the track passed its morning inspection. It's great that racing is on but we won't pretend conditions will be ideal for our lad this afternoon. He's a very well-bred flat horse who showed good form on the level for Ralph Beckett.
We expect him to find it too soft underfoot but we are eager to get going with him and he needs the experience. I suppose you never know for sure whether they handle testing conditions until you try so we just decided we may as well have a go.
Ability-wise we are very happy with him, he's a lovely horse and if he takes to the hurdling game he could be anything in the future. You can never rule out horses surprising you and coping with ground you don't think they want but the chances are today will just be a starting point for us before looking at some targets in the spring.
