Carlisle reflections, Musselburgh and a job vacancy

We didn’t add to the tally of winners at Carlisle on Sunday but both horses ran with promise for the future. We were perhaps a shade disappointed with Here Comes The Man but he ran okay in the main, although he jumped a bit left and didn’t have the gears to keep up with the ones in front of him.

He plugged away in what was a very competitive race and Craig said he gave him a good feel. He had a decent blow afterwards so he’ll come on for it and I think it’s pretty clear what he wants is three miles and a fence. We’ll see how he is over the next few days then start making a plan to get him another outing over hurdles. He’s still learning his job and is very much one for going chasing next year.

Le Cheval Noir ran a decent race, although he was flat out the whole way because they went a pretty fierce gallop up front - and didn’t come back. All in all, I was happy with how he stayed on and he needs more of a test. I think that was the case for both of ours.

We move on to Musselburgh on Wednesday with DO NOT DISTURB (3.20) declared for their three-miles-five handicap chase. It’s a very good race with probably the best opposition he’s faced, even though it’s only five runners.

The conditions should suit him, the trip will be right up his street. He’s been in fantastic form since May, winning three times, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on stepped up a level. All bar one of the opposition has had a run so it's going to be hotly contested.

Cailin Dearg is due to go to Sedgefield. She’s a nice horse who has been going well, so we’re hopeful of a decent run if she takes to the track.

Fete Champetre and Espoir Moriviere are both likely to take up their entries at Hexham on Friday as part of a decent-sized team so we’ll update on them later this week.
