Carlisle

IT was great to keep the ball rolling with another victory, this time at Musselburgh from Some Reign, who ran a cracker to get his head in front to make it four wins this week! Slanelough also ran another blinder, going from the front again and showed loads of guts with the way he was coming back at the winner towards the line. That was a really competitive race, he’s had a great 2021 so far so we’ll have a think about where he goes next but it's great to see him in this form.

We head to Carlisle next with two runners on their big day. As always at this meeting, it’s ultra-competitive stuff but we have a couple of very nice horses to travel over there with. First up is HERE COMES THE MAN (11.50) who is a gorgeous horse we bought last season. That's him above, leading up.

I ran him in a bumper at Ayr in May but that was a mistake, the ground was too fast for him that day and we immediately wished we hadn’t. This week the ground, the trip and the track will all suit him. He’ll get it nice and soft underneath and starting off over two-miles-four will be perfect too. It’s a very hot race, there are a lot of nice looking horses representing good yards, so we’ll have to see how we get on. All we can say about ours is he’s lovely and we’re excited about getting him going. Fingers crossed!

LE CHEVAL NOIR (12.50) makes his chasing debut in the novices’ limited handicap. As ever, it’s a competitive race which will take some winning. He will love the ground, the softer the better for him, especially over this trip, because he’s a proper stayer. We won the race last year with Rath An Iuir and you could say he’s got a similar profile to Rathy. He loves the deep ground and stays all day so we’ll see if we can emulate last season’s success.

The season is really cranking up now, with entries at Musselburgh, Sedgefield and Hexham coming up so hopefully we'll be able to carry our good start from October into November.
