Veterinary:
Tim Davis from Renton Swan Vets, Coldstream is our local vet, Tim does all the routine stuff, including scanning, x-ray, scoping, blood testing, lameness and so on. If we have a bigger problem, need a wind op doing or a leg fired or a lameness we can’t get to the bottom of, we send our horses down to Graham Russ at Yarm. I have complete faith in both Tim Davis and Graham Russ, they are excellent vets. We also use The Royal Dick in Edinburgh for other emergencies, they are an excellent teaching hospital, where the treatment is top class.
Feed:
We have been feeding Gain Feeds gainfeeds.com for a year now, and we’re very pleased with it. The horses eat very well here, and they look very well on it. We feed hay to the horses and get the best available, which is often from the Cotswolds. We steam our hay (haygain.com), even though we only feed very good hay, this just eliminates any dust and spoors without damaging any of the nutrients. Our horses also obviously are turned out every day, which I think is hugely beneficial for keeping their guts very healthy.

Charities:
MS Borders Racing Club – This has been a terrifically successful charity racing club, organised by my old boss Rhona Elliot, who suffers herself from MS. It is a very fun club and any new members are more than welcome, and much needed, to keep the operation going. Rhona works incredibly hard at it, and has succeeded in really raising awareness and money for the MS society in the Borders. We train a nice filly for them here called Scarvagh Rose, she had a couple of nice runs last season, and then a couple of poorer runs. She has really strengthened up over the Summer however, and has come in looking like a bull. So I am really looking forward to running her this Autumn, I think she’ll show a lot more, and eventually she’ll go chasing. The club also has a nice horse, Hannah Jaques, with Nicky Richards, who is at a similar stage. It is a fun club that has many outings to the races, yard visits and much more.
