Easter Around The Corner.....
Let’s not labour the point, but the weather has been a bit of a nightmare recently. However, it’s the same for everyone and with Easter now just around the corner, thankfully we’ve still got a few horses to run during the spring months; including one or two new arrivals from the Irish Point-to-Point scene.
Unfortunately Slanelough missed the cut for the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, and was also denied an ideal opportunity to race at Kelso (March 3rd). However, the revised plan is now to head to Carlisle on Sunday for the additional fixture sanctioned by the British Horse Racing Authority. Smugglers Stash was a determined winner at Ayr earlier in the month and he seems to be in great order at home, so he’s another with a trip to Carlisle on the agenda (Easter Saturday).
Planet Nine thrilled us on Eider Chase day at Newcastle following his Kelso misdemeanours (apologies golfers), and he’s been given a revised rating of 135, with his form boosted by the runner up Caderyn scoring at Uttoxeter last weekend. Assuming that the ground hasn’t dried out too much, he will also have an Easter Saturday assignment; at Haydock for the Stayers Final. Bako De La Saulaie lined up there on Wednesday, but with retrospect we’re kicking ourselves for running, as conditions had dried out considerably and he’d have needed it much softer in order to drop him back in trip (2m4f) on a flat track. If he comes out of the race well enough, we may opt to take him to Kelso on April 7th or alternatively wait for the Perth Festival (April 25th-27th).
Finally, both Coole Hall and Some Reign are back in training, so we’re hoping to get another run out of them during the spring, but with no definitive plans at present, we’ll see how things develop.
